River

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

River, a large, unneutered male dog, is currently in need of a foster home in Montenegro. He is approximately 50-60 cm tall and is very people-oriented, seeking constant human interaction and would love to climb onto his caregiver's arm. Initially unsure outside his enclosure, he quickly orients himself around humans and seeks their protection and closeness. This suggests he could make a wonderful companion with the right people. River currently has a flesh wound on his leg that requires treatment and is unneutered. We are looking for a loving home where he can settle down and experience the joy of having a real home. _____________________ Are you interested? Please see the foster application form. Naming Patrons: We would like to thank Leandra for her generous donation, which has given this handsome male dog the new name River. General Note: The behaviors described here are exhibited by the animal in its current environment. The animal's behavior may change in a new environment or context, and it may behave differently. We can only provide the best information we can about how the animal behaves at the moment. We will be happy to support you, especially in the initial period, and help with the introduction.

____________ Hast Du Interesse? About River

What life with River looks like

River is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Caramelli Rescue Montenegro in Nationwide.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇲🇪Adopting from Montenegro

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting River, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about River?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Caramelli Rescue Montenegro handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw River on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt River if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Caramelli Rescue Montenegro will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is River already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if River isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Caramelli Rescue Montenegro early rather than rehoming privately; they know River and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
