Robert

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 8 years

Robert—a friendly mixed-breed male dog—is looking for his forever home. Robert is a roughly eight-year-old mixed-breed male who was surrendered to a Spanish animal shelter along with his siblings, Elsa and Chico. Unfortunately, we don’t know why the three of them ended up there. What we do know is that Robert is a friendly fellow who’s now waiting for his life to take a turn for the better. For a dog his age, spending his days in an animal shelter is especially challenging. We’re therefore very hopeful that he won’t have to wait much longer for his chance at a new life. We suspect that Robert has lived in a household before. Nevertheless, his future adopters should be prepared for the fact that some things in his new home may need to be relearned or refreshed. After all, even an adult dog needs time after a move to settle in and get used to new routines. We’d like Robert to find people who will meet him with patience, understanding, and loving consistency—and show him that his new home is a place where he can stay forever. A dog from animal rescue always brings with him a piece of an unknown story. Anyone willing to give Robert the time and security he needs will gain a lovable companion who longs more than anything else to start over after a difficult chapter in his life. Here are Robert’s videos: Video 1 | Video 2 Ideally, we’d like to find a permanent home for Robert. However, at this point, a foster home would also be a huge help and a tremendous improvement in Robert’s life.

About Robert

What life with Robert looks like

Robert is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Robert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Robert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Robert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Robert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Robert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Robert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Robert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
