Adopt Roberto

Labrador Retriever · Male

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Roberto was found somewhere in Nowhere, alone. He was in a terrible condition, completely emaciated, with many bald and sore spots, but he was very happy to see a human. Typical Labrador, he wagged his tail as soon as he was rescued and immediately went willingly with the animal protectors! Often, the sighted dogs in the deserted area are observed for weeks and captured with the help of live traps – not so with Roberto, who simply was happy to have human contact again and showed his trust to his rescuers right away. Not only physically, but also characteristically, Roberto is a typical Labrador (mixed breed), a bit scruffy, and also a bit distant could be said! He loves everyone: two- and four-legged, whether child, woman, man, female dog, male dog, small, large, young, old, sick, or healthy! Roberto has a very social nature and also cares for needy fellow animals, so he lay beside a dying female dog for some time to help her on her last journey. He loves the closeness, wants to be cuddled and played with, and is very eager to learn! Roberto has an elevated leishmaniasis titre value. He is very well tolerated with Allopurinol and shows no health impairment. We wish for him a home where he can do a lot of things with his people, and it would be nice if there is already a four-legged playmate, because we have noticed that although it may not be immediately apparent, he is very sensitive and dog company does him incredibly well! If he is strongly included in his family's life and can be part of many activities, it would be okay to have no existing dog in the home if he can have friendly dog contacts outside. 🍀 Information on leishmaniasis Update06.05.2026 New images 12.12.2025 New images Please note:

About Roberto

What life with Roberto looks like

Roberto is a small adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roberto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roberto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roberto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roberto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roberto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roberto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roberto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
