Adopt Rocco

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 8 years

Support and Health How much training will I need? Needs ongoing support Can I be left alone? Yes Rocco was left for up to eight hours in his previous home and was described as being settled during this time, aside from occasionally getting up to stretch his legs. However, he would need time to settle into his new home before being left for similar periods. Do I have any medical conditions? Existing conditions Rocco has several current medical conditions, including Hip dysplasia, Allergic skin disease, spondylosis; and Pododermatitis (sore feet). These conditions will require consideration before he is rehomed. Our rehoming team will be able to provide further information if you apply to rehome Rocco and are identified as a suitable match. We also advise that any medical conditions, whether historic or ongoing, are discussed with your own vet before taking Rocco home. Due to the nature of the medical condition, a vet call with one of our onsite vets will be required before the pet goes home. Who I can live with Can I live with dogs? No Can I live with cats? No Can I live with small pets? No Additional information Rocco would prefer not to live with any other dogs in his new home, as he finds the company of other dogs stressful. While he has been able to walk alongside another dog after a careful introduction, he remained stressed throughout and was unable to relax or enjoy the walk. Family and environment What kind of family am I looking for? Rocco loves his people and greets them with a wagging tail and excited little foot stomps. He thrives on fuss and attention from his favourite humans. However, he can find some aspects of handling challenging, particularly when it comes from unfamiliar people or during veterinary visits. Because of his sensitivity to handling, Rocco is looking for a calm, adult only home. What type of environment would suit me? He will require his new home to have access to its own secure, private garden. About Rocco Rocco is a sweet, loving senior gentleman with a heart full of affection and loyalty. He absolutely adores being around his people and is happiest when he’s by your side, soaking up all the love and companionship he can get. This charming boy is wonderfully social with humans and thrives on attention, gentle fuss, and quality time together. While he can feel a little worried around other dogs. Rocco has a playful side too his toys are very important to him, especially his beloved crocodile, which never fails to bring him joy! Whether it’s a quiet play session or simply carrying it around, it’s clear it’s his favourite treasure. One of Rocco’s greatest pleasures in life is being outdoors. He loves taking his time to sniff, explore, and enjoy the fresh air, appreciating the world at his own relaxed pace.

About Rocco

What life with Rocco looks like

Rocco is a small adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Woodgreen Pets Charity in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Woodgreen Pets Charity handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Woodgreen Pets Charity will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Woodgreen Pets Charity early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
