Adopt Rock

Mixed Breed · Male · 2 years

He is almost two years old and his reference number is 23432. They abandoned him at the Zoosanitario and now he is with us. This is all we can tell about the story of Rock. We know nothing else. Rock shares a kennel enclosure with a little female dog. If you observe them from a distance, you will see him jump, run around, explore his yard, and interact with his companion. If you approach, he will bark at you like the hundreds of dogs in the animal rescue association. But if you enter, his behavior changes because Rock is very afraid of humans. We know nothing of his history, but we can deduce that he has never received affection. When he sees the volunteers enter, he stops barking and hides. If we try to pet him, he crouches down, afraid, perhaps thinking that we are going to hit him. Poor thing. It seems that no one has petted him in his short life. He is a medium-sized mixed breed dog. Despite his fear, he lets himself be put on a leash and remains attentive to whoever takes him. He does not like being petted yet, but he lets it happen. He will get used to it, as many do. And when he overcomes his fear, he will show his true character. He has a whole future to discover. Rock is for a patient person who knows how to dedicate the time and space he needs. In the animal rescue association, we are already working with him, helping him lose his fear, but the real work is better done in a home, with a family, and lots of love. We are sure he will evolve well; he is a good, calm dog. He shows curiosity towards what surrounds him. And he gets along wonderfully with his kennel enclosure companion, so he can go to a home where there are more animals.

About Rock

What life with Rock looks like

Rock is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient owner due to fear of humans and past trauma

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rock, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rock?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rock on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rock if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rock already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rock isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rock and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
