Rocket

Whippet · Male · Adult · 4 years

Rocket loves to spend time with people and is the friendliest, most loving boy. His favourite thing to do is go on adventures, and he will travel in the car to find the best spots. Rocket’s ideal walking location is somewhere quieter, as meeting lots of other dogs is overwhelming for him. However, when he is properly introduced, he can make fantastic dog friends to have play dates with! Rocket has an infectious personality that leaves everyone smiling, his goofy ways and funny antics will make him such a great addition to his new home. This lovely lad is Rocket, a 4-year-old Crossbreed with so much to offer his forever home. Rocket has been working very hard to get ready for his fresh start, and he can’t wait to show you what an amazing boy he is! He will need multiple meets here at the Rehoming Centre prior to adoption so that the training team can offer all the tips and tricks for introducing Rocket to his new life. Rocket is best suited as the only pet, and he will need an active, adult only household that most importantly love to have fun! A secure outdoor space would be amazing for him to run around, play and sniff during the day. His adopters should also be able to be at home with him at the beginning, and until leaving time can be gradually increased.

About Rocket

What life with Rocket looks like

Rocket is a medium-sized adult whippet dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs quiet walking locations, overwhelmed by other dogs, requires gradual introduction to being left alone

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocket, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocket?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocket on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocket if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rocket already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocket isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocket and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
