Rockie

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 5 years

Rockie is looking for a calm, understanding home where he can settle at his own pace and receive lots of love and care. He can potentially be left for short periods, but this will need to be introduced and built up very gradually. Rockie would benefit from living with another dog who could help him build confidence. He can live with secondary school-aged children who will not overwhelm him and understand that he can be a worried boy in unfamiliar situations. Rockie loves playing with his toys, especially Tug. With the right family, time and patience, Rockie has every opportunity to blossom into a wonderful companion. Rockie is a lovely 5-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Jack Russell who is currently enjoying life in foster care. He is a gentle and affectionate boy who can feel a little unsettled when faced with change and may take some time to adjust to new surroundings. He would therefore thrive in a calm, patient home with a consistent routine. His new family will need to give him plenty of time, patience and reassurance while he adjusts to his new surroundings. It may take him a week or so to truly feel comfortable but sitting with him and offering gentle reassurance and head strokes help to make him feel safe. Rockie is happy to meet new people and, once he gets to know you, he can be very affectionate. He enjoys exploring new places on walks, although he may need some time to build his confidence before fully enjoying new adventures. He is happy wearing his harness and receiving fuss, but his confidence is still growing.

About Rockie

What life with Rockie looks like

Rockie is a adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rockie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rockie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rockie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rockie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rockie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rockie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rockie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
