Rocky-1

Male · Senior · 11 years

He has a challenging past behind him. At the shelter, for several months, he came across as aloof, intimidating, and reluctant to make contact with people. To this day, Rocky still stiffens slightly when his neck area is touched. As of today, he has regained his affection for humans and thoroughly enjoys taking walks together. A walk with Rocky is a real pleasure—his leash remains loose at all times, and he focuses entirely on sniffing around. He generally has a positive attitude toward other dogs and, when calm, can communicate beautifully with them. As befits a TTB representative, he can become easily excited and consequently jumps and nips. That’s why it’s a good idea to carry a ball or another sturdy toy, such as a tug toy, so that the dog has something to hold in his mouth and can release his negative emotions onto it. Rocky makes excellent use of this strategy. In his kennel, he tears apart all his blankets and bedding, and sometimes, out of frustration, he even bites the metal parts of the kennel. However, it’s important to keep in mind that similar behaviors could also occur at home if the dog’s needs remain unmet.

PL·Show original

About Rocky-1

What life with Rocky-1 looks like

Rocky-1 is a large senior dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky-1, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky-1?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky-1 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky-1 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky-1 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky-1 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky-1 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
