Adopt Rocky

Cocker Spaniel · Male · Adult · 6 years

Rocky is back at our shelter after spending nearly 6 years with a family. His owner, facing significant health issues, unfortunately could no longer take care of him. Behavioral issues and multiple biting incidents over time also gradually weakened their relationship, to the point where she no longer felt safe around him. Rocky is generally a calm dog in daily life, but he shows signs of stress and anxiety that can sometimes make his reactions hard to predict. Sensitive to his environment, he can quickly become uncomfortable in certain situations and express this discomfort inappropriately. Regarding his behavior, Rocky has already bitten during manipulations he did not enjoy. A more serious incident occurred when he bit his former owner’s face after she had a fainting spell. These elements require a real understanding of his emotional functioning as well as special vigilance. On walks, Rocky can be unpredictable in his reactions. His stress often makes him react to people or elements he encounters on his path, making outings sometimes difficult to manage. Education-wise, the basics are largely to be built. Rocky has not benefited from a stable educational framework and is not always housebroken. The entire learning process will therefore need to be taken up with patience, consistency, and progressivity. Solitude is also a sensitive point: he has a hard time being alone and can quickly bark at the slightest noise or movement around him.

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a adult cocker spaniel dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
