Alfie

Cocker Spaniel · Male · Adult · 5 years

alfie loves to spend as much time as possible out doors and active. he currently loves to play ball but would benefit from branching out and learning new ways to engage and work his brain as well as his legs. he likes to have human company but is happy to do his own thing as well as have fuss and attention as long as he knows you are there. Alfie loves to take things that fall on the floor and keep them. his owners have helped teach him how teach him how to bring and swap items and would love to carry on this training in his new home. he will be a very fun dog for any adopter who also loves outdoor adventures and learning new activities. Alfie is looking for an active home who want to teach him some fun skills and put his brain to use. he prefers the company of humans and will mostly ignore dogs out especially if you have a ball and would like to be the only pet. Alfie likes to keep things that he finds on the floor so is looking for an older teen -adult home. Alfie struggles to be home alone and would need adopters who can arrange for him not to be left with the potential for ongoing training to help him feel better about it. Alfie likes to sleep in a cosy crate den overnight and is clean in the house. Alfie travels well in the car he just needs a little help getting in. Alfie's adopters will need to commit to helping him on his weight loss journey.

About Alfie

What life with Alfie looks like

Alfie is a adult cocker spaniel dog waiting at Dogs Trust Bridgend in Mid Glamorgan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alfie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alfie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Bridgend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alfie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alfie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Bridgend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alfie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alfie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Bridgend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alfie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
