Rocky

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Breed: Mixed Breed Color: Black-brown with some white Age: March 3, 2024 Gender: Male Neutered: Yes Reason for relinquishment: Changed living circumstances Characteristics: An upbeat, intelligent dog who seeks a leader with both heart and mind: Rocky (SH 56 cm & approx. 20 kg) is independent and attentive—he loves to observe, is smart and eager to learn—he picks up new things quickly and is highly motivated. He brings joyful energy to training sessions and can be impulsive; without clear leadership, he may sometimes take the initiative in certain situations. He’s instinctively alert and likes to handle situations on his own. Rocky is a sensitive and lovable guy who’s enthusiastic about many shared activities and always motivated by treats—even though he’s not your typical “people-pleasing” dog. He’s always up for playful activities, loves nose work above all else, as well as retrieving and mental games. He’s now settling down nicely, has experience with medical training, and is comfortably accustomed to wearing a muzzle. Rocky walks well on a leash, enjoys car rides, can stay alone, and has good basic obedience. We’ve completed a young-dog course with him and regularly attended resilience training. Free-running is only possible in clearly visible terrain, as he has a strong prey drive. In general, he’s social toward other dogs—but his reactions to canine encounters are mixed, whether off-leash or on-leash. It depends on the other dog’s personality and dynamics; therefore, initial dog encounters should always be carefully supervised. He loves physical play. When encountering strangers who want to interact with him, he either reacts with skepticism or immediately shows friendliness. When visitors come to his home, he displays territorial behavior and tends to want to take charge. He still needs to learn that welcoming guests isn’t his job. That’s why he requires calm and confident leadership at all times—under gentle guidance, he already does very well! We’re looking for: Strong, calm, and loving caregivers who can show him that he’s allowed to rely on them and who are willing to train him initially with a muzzle when necessary—experienced people who know how to handle challenging dogs, act proactively, read him correctly, and provide clear structure; dedicated dog owners who can offer him a good balance between mental and physical stimulation as well as sufficient rest periods. Ideally, a quiet, rural home without children, cats, or small pets. Due to personal hardships, Rocky urgently needs a new home or foster placement. His current home can no longer provide him with the clear and calm leadership he needs under these special circumstances. Rocky can be visited by appointment and after providing self-disclosure information, in Baar/ZG. About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Berner Tierzentrum in Switzerland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Berner Tierzentrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Berner Tierzentrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Berner Tierzentrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
