Rocky

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Rocky (born May 2023) is a young, athletic male who enjoys being active and can really exert himself during long walks and playtime. He has lived with his family since he was a puppy and is familiar with life in a rural home with a large garden. He is now looking for a new home, unintentionally, as the family's living situation has changed and living with the children has become increasingly difficult. We are therefore looking for a home, preferably without young children and with people who can challenge Rocky but not overwhelm him. His family describes Rocky as a loving, playful dog who enjoys playing with his plush toy, tennis ball, or other toys. He also has a fondness for shoes - they should therefore be kept out of reach. Rocky is also inventive when it comes to food. It should be clearly communicated to him that he is not allowed to help himself at the dinner table. Rocky is a quick and enduring companion who enjoys exercise. A home with active people who like to be outdoors and can provide him with enough activity would be suitable. A garden where he can move around would be nice. Little is known about his compatibility with other dogs, as he has rarely had contact with them so far. A gentle building up of his social behavior would be advisable. If Rocky feels threatened or overwhelmed by a situation, this is shown by growling and showing his teeth. He needs people who can read his body language and respond to his needs. Rocky is, as already described, active, but of course, he also needs his rest and must be able to relax sometimes. His new people should be experienced with dogs and willing to grow together with Rocky to a team by regularly visiting a dog school: with patience, clear orientation and loving consistency. Rocky has not been neutered yet. He will be placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. Wearing a safety harness is necessary when picking up the dog. Such a harness (3-strap safety harness) can be purchased for only 25 €.

DE·Show original

Rocky (geb.

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
