Rocky

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

The picture-perfect Rocky is an energetic little heartbreaker who has no fear of touch. With his irresistible charm, he wraps small and large people around his paw. Rocky is extremely cuddly and loves it when his little belly is stroked. At first meeting with other dogs, Rocky is initially quite unsure, which he expresses through loud barking. However, this soon passes, and he relaxes and gets along famously with his new canine buddies. The little bundle of energy is still very playful and loves to go for walks for his life. Since a car accident in Portugal, Rocky can no longer bear his left front leg normally. Rocky was already treated in Portugal and has been thoroughly examined by an orthopedic specialist here in Germany. No fractures or joint injuries were found. The vet also does not believe that Rocky has pain. As the accident occurred some time ago, full normalization of the gait is unfortunately no longer to be expected. In Rocky's head, a kind of protective mechanism likely developed due to the pain at the time. However, normal walks, playing, and frolicking are still possible. We will try to improve his condition further with the help of a physiotherapist, but already now, Rocky can enjoy his life and play carefree. Since Rocky was recently still in an animal shelter, the life in a family is still completely new to him, and he needs to learn the dog ABCs. This will certainly be no problem for the intelligent and eager-to-learn little fellow. For Rocky, we are looking for a home with people who enjoy spending time with the sweet little guy. As Rocky loves children, he is also well-suited for families with kids. He can also be rehomed as a second dog. Whether the charming puppy boy can get along with cats would need to be tested if there is interest. No dog experience is required. Currently, Rocky lives in 35043 Marburg-Cappel, where he can be visited. Rocky is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, tested negative for Mediterranean diseases, and has an EU Pass.

DE·Show original

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Portugal in Speyer.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Portugal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Portugal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Portugal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
