Roke

Mixed Breed · Male

Our extremely cute new arrival Roke was picked up while he was on a raid through the trash cans of Linares with a similarly young companion. For several days, the two boys had already caught the attention of residents, who could hardly peek over the curb. A handsome one-year-old dog (as of 12/2021) of Rokes size definitely doesn't belong in the chaos of traffic - small and friendly, he would have been an easy target for dog catchers. Now, if you are only 30cm tall and a male dog, life in the animal shelter can be quite demanding. Everyone else is bigger and stronger, and what is just a little nudge for a German Shepherd can already be really dangerous for a handful of dogs like Roke. That's why the little ones spend more time in the kennel, have less time to play, and winter is just starting to pick up, and even in Spain the nights are cold and the concrete floor doesn't warm up at all during the day. For our little residents, we always hope to find a nice, warm home, or at least a foster family, but the shelters are extremely full - filled with people who thought during the lockdowns that a four-legged friend was a good reason not to follow curfew restrictions. And all these dogs are now out of service. Roke is a playful companion and surprisingly balanced and easygoing for a member of his breed. He likes everything and everyone, has respect but no fear, his spirit of exploration is undiminished, and he has great talent as a solo performer. The nice Yorkshire terrier is probably not much older than a year and is undoubtedly a classic example of the category "perfect first dog"! Having almost grown out of adolescence, but still very young, extremely well-socialized, and with a size that allows older children to take him for a walk alone. Roke is an absolutely lovely charmer and a sunshine on four legs ... and he would like a really active, humorous family. Such a modest wish should surely be fulfillable ...

DE·Show original

About Roke

What life with Roke looks like

Roke is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
