Roko

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Roko is a social male dog in his prime, whose curious and friendly nature wins hearts immediately. Since he has been living with the veterinarian, he has fully shed his initial uncertainty and shows himself to be open, affectionate, and full of joy for life. His gentle nature and cheerful gaze make him a dog who simply does you good. But it was precisely this open nature that drew our attention. In videos, it became noticeable that Roko had become strikingly thin. As a precaution, he was presented to the veterinarian – and fortunately early enough, because our Roko needs special food so that he can stay lively, stable, and cheerful. This food clearly agrees with him, but it also means that in a usual group housing situation he could not reliably be cared for well enough. Update from visit, August 2026: Roko is curious and friendly. Since he has been living with the veterinarian Raluca Elena Ferbințeanu at the shelter, he has let go of his uncertainty and shows himself to be open and affectionate. He is interested in people, seeks contact, and wants to understand who he is meeting. To keep it that way, we urgently need a foster placement or a home for this friendly dog boy. Roko is a dog who loves people, seeks closeness, and is happy about every form of attention. He wants to belong, to be seen, and to live in a home where his needs are respected and he is lovingly cared for. Roko will be adopted out by the animal welfare association Vierbeiner in Not e.V. after a positive preliminary check, vaccinated and microchipped. General note on our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can repeatedly reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog may show itself differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is entirely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs even open up more quickly at home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide orientation and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within him. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and develop positively.

About Roko

What life with Roko looks like

Roko is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Roko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
