Romeo

Mixed Breed · Male · 3 years

"Unsure, stormy fellow" Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Date of Birth: March 2023 Children in the same household: no Home sought: in the countryside The stormy, 2023-born American Staffordshire Terrier male dog Romeo is rather unsure, as he has already experienced a lot of negativity in his short life. The poor lad had a home, but in the middle of winter in Romania, he was brought to a killing center where he not only froze but was also abused until he found his way to us in Austria. Romeo needs a short get-to-know-you phase to build trust, but then he is very friendly and cuddly. We need to gradually find out how he gets along with other dogs, if his stress level allows it. In his future home, Romeo must be a solo prince. The adorable male dog knows the harness, but he still needs to practice putting it on because he is very stressed with us and standing still is not one of his strengths. On the leash, he is very well-behaved. At our shelter, Romeo is house-trained – except during thunderstorms, as he is afraid and does not go outside. For the dear fellow, we are looking for a home in the countryside.

About Romeo

What life with Romeo looks like

Romeo is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Romeo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Romeo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Romeo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Romeo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Romeo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Romeo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Romeo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
