Adopt Roo

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Young · 2 years

Personality:Roo by name and Roo by nature this boy is a bouncy ball of fun. This whorl wind will change your life in amazing ways but he will also be a bit of a project. Roo is an energetic boy who wants to join you on all your adventures and would make a great hiking companion. He absolutely loves his friends and wants to jump onto your lap and roll around. He needs a few meetings with new people to be happy with them touching him but he is happy to walk alongside anyone. He enjoys playing with a well matched female dog but is selective and is not keen on entire males. He looooovvvvveeess to train for food and toy rewards and he is currently learning skills such as recall/ drop/ leave/ staying on his ‘place’. He will make the right person the bestest friend! Behaviour:Walks – Roo walks well on the lead, and enages well with any training. He is fully muzzle trained and wears a muzzle on all of his walks. He can bark at other dogs if they are close to him.At home – In the home he likes to be up high and is still learning how to behave and will need patient consistent training. He has shown some resource guarding tendencies in his previous home and this will need continued management in his new home, to set him for success. He has been great with his behaviour assessments here and so his new adopters will need to be happy to follow our guidance and continue his training. All adopters are entitled to three free months of behaviour support from our behaviour team Housing:Roo will need a private and secure garden. We think he should be able to learn to be left for a couple of hours during the day but this will need to be built up slowly allowing him time to settle in first. We feel Roo will benefit from a quiet household, with a smaller family of 1-3 members. Roo copes well with adult visitors but it is important that everyone visiting the house understands his training and are happy to participate. Children/pets:Roo is looking for an adult only home. Please note, applications with visiting or resident children under the age of 16 will not be processed. Roo would also prefer a home without other animals but would enjoy dog friends to walk with. Vet history:Roo has recently been given a clean bill of health but is on on-going behaviour medication. This will need to be continued for some time whilst he settles in his new home until he can be weened off. Adoption fee:The adoption fee is £220. If you would like to make an additional donation over and above the adoption fee, this would be hugely appreciated. Additional information:All rented and leasehold properties will require written consent from the property owner or agent. This needs to be in place before completing an application form. If your application is successful, staff will request a copy.We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the dog.Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. Adopters are responsible for the on-going medical costs once the animal has been adopted.Due to the high number of applications we receive daily, regrettably we will only be able to contact the successful applicant. Please note you have to be 18+ to apply for an animal. About Roo

What life with Roo looks like

Roo is a young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
