Rua

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Rua is a loyal, lively, affectionate eight year old male cockapoo. He is house trained, non-shedding, chipped, neutered and vaccinated. He loves a good run on the beach. He is walked daily and loves to relax in the garden. Although his kennel is in the garden, he sleeps in the kitchen at night in his basket. He is used to a walled in garden. He also travels well in the car boot. He is used to being walked along country roads or the beach. He has a good diet but prefers dinner scraps to his nuts. He is good to sit for treats and will gently eat from your hand. Rua would make a great family pet, but is strong so would best suit a family with children aged 10+. He is with us since he was a puppy and we will be sad to let him go to a new loving home. If interested in Rua, please fill out the adoption questionnaire

About Rua

What life with Rua looks like

Rua is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at West Cork Animals in Cork.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Rua, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rua?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. West Cork Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rua on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rua if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — West Cork Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rua already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rua isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with West Cork Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rua and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
