Rubens

Male · Senior · 9 years

Rubens - we call him Czekoladka or Szoko due to his beautiful brown coat. He looks like a hunting dog - he is slim, elegant and full of grace, but unfortunately his past has left a mark on his psyche and body. Although we don't know his exact story, one thing is certain - he didn't have an easy life. It is evident that no one took care to teach him appropriate interactions with other dogs. In interactions with them, he behaves like a teenager, being persistent and intense, although he is already eight years old. This does not mean that he is not able to get along with other members of his species at all. Rubi can form beautiful relationships, especially with female dog. We think that after proper introduction, he could live with a nice canine resident. Rubens has made up for his lack of contact with people in recent times. It turns out that he loves human company and is eager for contact with them, although he still fears them, and in difficult situations he can warnly growl. His future caregiver should be able to read subtle dog communication signals to catch when Czekoladka asks for peace and increased distance. For this reason, we do not recommend him for a home with children. We definitely recommend this gentleman for adoption! We are convinced that he will repay the love shown and the proper work with great love and attachment.

PL·Show original

Aleksandra 505173322

About Rubens

What life with Rubens looks like

Rubens is a large senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Needs patient owner who can read dog body language; may growl when stressed

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rubens, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rubens?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rubens on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rubens if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rubens already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rubens isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rubens and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
