Ruby

Lurcher · Male · Young · 3 years

Our beautiful and intelligent Ruby has been working hard these last 7 months on her rehabilitation training and been so patient on her wait to start searching for her forever family. We don’t know much about her past as she was transferred to us from private boarding with little history, after being rescued by inspectors on welfare grounds. Since she has been with us we noticed she can get frustrated when seeing other dogs – so Ruby and the team have been working hard on engagement work and displaying appropriate social skills when in the presence of other dogs, so hopefully she can have a play mate in the future. She is an incredibly affectionate, playful and intelligent dog who will thrive in a home that will continue to provide her with physical and mental stimulation and continue her training around other dogs. Her new owners will need to be experienced and confident in handling larger dogs and be happy and willing to follow her behaviour plan so she can continue to shine. She really is a beautiful girl who deserves the very best in life. She adores her toys and balls, racing around the enclosed field and chilling in the garden watching the world go by with her favourite people. She greets her rescue family with full body wags and a little chitchat each morning which never fails to make us smile. She travels brilliantly in the van and is always up for an adventure! If she could be your new best friend please get in touch.

About Ruby

What life with Ruby looks like

Ruby is a medium-sized young adult lurcher dog waiting at RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
