Ruby

Female · Senior · 9 years

Ruby badly tolerates being in the animal shelter, therefore we are urgently looking for her a home in a quiet area! The story of Ruby is no different from the story of hundreds of other dogs that end up in the animal shelter. We do know, however, that she has a difficult past. At first, she was afraid of men and preferred not to approach them. Fortunately, after some time, she trusted our volunteers and now happily goes out with them for walks. Ruby quickly learned to walk on a leash. She loves to be petted, leans into people with her whole body, and offers her neck for scratching. Although she is initially distrustful, once she bonds with someone, she loves them deeply ❤️ Ruby is very stressed by the presence of other dogs. As soon as she sees them even in the distance, she starts barking nervously. Because of this, she is unable to rest for even a moment in the animal shelter. The environment of hundreds of dogs makes the female dog constantly agitated. Interestingly, in direct contact, she is friendly towards other dogs and can calmly walk with them. This gives us hope that in a home in a quiet area, the problem will not occur, and Ruby will finally have a chance to calm down. We don't know her relationship with children, although considering her distrust, she may need time. We also don't know if the female dog ever lived in a house or rode in a car. The future caregiver must give Ruby time to acclimate, understand her needs and fears. Viyaleta 720851234.

Viyaleta 720851234.

About Ruby

What life with Ruby looks like

Ruby is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Reactive to other dogs at distance, needs quiet environment, requires patient owner for adjustment period

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
