Rüdiger-Yo

Cocker Spaniel · Male · Senior · 9 years

Everyone who has ever had a Cocker Spaniel knows what can happen to such a breed dog when he takes over at home. Cockers need clear and consistent upbringing, they must be set limits as puppies, otherwise they will be exceeded and the kitchen table and couch will suddenly be in the possession of the dog. Something similar must have happened to our Cocker Rüdiger-Yo. He was the dog of an old lady and had the trousers on in the household. How exactly it went is probably a secret, but one thing became clear quickly when he came to our animal shelter: no limits were set to him! Rüdiger-Yo reacted immediately angrily when his way was blocked, the direction was changed on the walk and anything was wanted from him. With us he learned that compromises, but also very clear statements from humans have their justification! So a self-confident person is needed for this 7-year-old Rüden! Someone who is consistent, willing to work with the muzzle in the initial period, preferably no children and cats and willing to recognize the good soul behind this shaggy face. If you then get them on track, they are great dogs, the Cockers! Who dares and wants to get to know Rüdiger-Yo? We would be happy to introduce you!

About Rüdiger-Yo

What life with Rüdiger-Yo looks like

Rüdiger-Yo is a senior cocker spaniel dog waiting at Tierheim Lübeck in Lübeck.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rüdiger-Yo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rüdiger-Yo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Lübeck handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rüdiger-Yo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rüdiger-Yo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Lübeck will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rüdiger-Yo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rüdiger-Yo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Lübeck early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rüdiger-Yo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
