Rūdis

Unknown · Senior · 11 years

Rudais, the runt, came to the shelter after his owner's death along with 9 other cats. Since relatives knew nothing about the cats - not where the gray-haired ones came from, nor what they were sick with, nor their age - further details are only our assumptions. Rūdis, most likely, has either had an ear injury or had an infection that caused one of his ears to become deformed. Such a cosmetic defect can also be seen as a special feature. Otherwise, the runt is communicative, person-oriented, and fairly self-aware. Suitable for life in a quiet environment, although ideally people with experience in cat care. If something very, very displeases Rūdis, he can protest by scratching and swatting with his paw. Otherwise, he doesn't show aggression or fear. Indeed, it's likely that Rudis will soon have to switch to medical food - for now, his kidney values are still within normal ranges, but as we know, aging doesn't come alone even for cats... * All the above about Rudis was written this summer. Unfortunately, as the time approaches for the shelter to close, we have to accept: the shelter will become Rudis' last home. His health has deteriorated faster than we hoped - Rudis already has acute kidney failure. As long as we can help the cat maintain vital functions with medical food and medication without him suffering or being uncomfortable, he will live and be treated in our home. If you would like to help Rudis, we will be grateful for cans intended for kidney failure.

About Rūdis

What life with Rūdis looks like

Rūdis is a senior cat waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rūdis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rūdis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rūdis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rūdis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rūdis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rūdis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rūdis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
