Adoption requirements Adoption process Request this animal now! Adoption requirements Adoption process Request this dog now! Rupi has gained sad notoriety. Although he is an absolutely lovable guy, he had to endure neglect from a very young age. Recently, his owner became fed up with him and "disposed" of him in a trash container as if he were worthless. A witness filmed the cruel act and called the police. He was even reported in the media under the name "Tomberon, the trash dog." Rupi came to the shelter through the Animal Police, which was an additional burden for the already traumatized dog. It was therefore not surprising that he was initially very shy and avoided contact. Even now, he is still reserved and spends a lot of time in his hut. However, he has shown that he is ready to give people a second chance. He has already built trust with his caretaker Tudor: he allows himself to be petted and takes food from the hand - a great progress despite the limited training time. The approximately 2-year-old Rupi is a beautiful, 60-65 cm tall mixed breed dog with a slim build, white fur and a striking three-colored pattern on his face. His shortened tail makes him particularly unique, but prevents him from entering Switzerland. It is not clear which breeds are in him, but a descent from a herding dog cannot be ruled out. We can only guess how much Rupi will blossom if he finds a home where he receives intensive attention and loving quality time. Therefore, we are looking for empathetic people who ideally have experience in handling herding dogs and appreciate the wonderful but also special characteristics of these dogs. Rupi is on the right track and has already shown that he likes the proximity and attention of people. Nevertheless, he still needs a sensitive, patient companion to overcome his insecurities. A rural home would be perfect for Rupi - a place where he can find peace and develop at his own pace. A fenced garden is important so that he can move freely and walk around undisturbed. Rupi is a social dog who meets other dogs with openness and has a warm-hearted soul. We don't know if he gets along with cats. Rupi has not yet received any education and is not familiar with living in a house, so he still has a lot to learn. As a herding dog mix, he has genetically determined high intelligence and independence. These dogs are known for their close bond with their people, their loyalty and their natural protective mentality, making them attentive companions. Young Rupi needs both mental and physical stimulation. After a positive preliminary check and payment of a protection fee of 500 euros, Rupi travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas and with an EU pet passport. Who will give Rupi the chance to open his heart and show his true potential? A suitable foster home that gives him security and a sense of belonging would also be a benefit. Many thanks, Lara Marie, for taking on his name sponsorship. A big thank you also goes to Vicky G., who has taken on a monthly sponsorship for Rupi. Many thanks also to Andrea P.! You also support Rupi with a monthly sponsorship! Status: 17.05.2026

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 17.05.2026

About Rupi

What life with Rupi looks like

Rupi is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rupi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rupi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rupi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rupi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rupi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rupi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rupi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
