Ruslan

Male · Adult · 5 years

Native Country: Hungary The beautiful and majestic Ruslan was found near the our shelter on December 18, 2023 – whether abandoned or escaped, the mystery remains. Capturing him was difficult, and he had a bleeding wound on his nose. Despite being microchipped, no owner could be identified, and no one reported him missing. Let’s see if the animal shelter can be a springboard into a new life for Ruslan! Ruslan needed some time to settle in. Employee Istvan took care of him with love. Ruslan is friendly, attentive, and loving – at first a bit shy, but warms up with trust. The Moscow guard dog is brave, obedient, and strongly people-oriented. So far, he shows no territorial behavior, but that could change due to his breed. He needs consistent, loving guidance and still needs to learn some basic obedience. Ruslan is looking for a home with a yard, a farm, or something similar – in the city or an apartment, he would not be happy. He does not get along with other dogs at the moment and would rather be a solo prince. For Ruslan, we are searching for enthusiasts and lovers of this breed – people with heart, brains, and dog experience who can challenge him physically and mentally, offer cuddles, and family connection. With Ruslan, you get a loyal and faithful companion who stands by his people through thick and thin. March 2025: Due to a medical issue, Ruslan required a tail amputation. On June 16, 2025, a volunteer, a Hungarian helper, writes: "His mentor could take Ruslan for a walk and brush his fur. During this, he showed himself to be calm, friendly – but very shy. He needed a lot of encouragement and closeness, sought contact with his mentor, and enjoyed being petted. While walking, he was still a bit unsure, but he developed quickly. Trips like the mentor day helped him a lot. On the way, he showed interest in other dogs from a distance." On September 1, 2025, a volunteer, a Hungarian helper, writes: "Ruslan’s mentor told us that they had already gone for a walk together for the third time. This allowed the trust between the dog and the mentor to develop. During the walk, he asked for cuddles and affection. As soon as they stopped, Ruslan immediately laid his head on his mentor’s shoulder. He was very grateful and loving. He is an extremely peaceful and kind dog. On the leash, he is sometimes still unsure, but he is getting better." On April 27, 2026, a volunteer, a Hungarian helper, writes: "Ruslan has lived at the our shelter since December 2023. He has already been taken out by several mentors at mentor days. His current mentor, who walks him regularly, describes him as one of the best dogs, a true 'dream dog'. Ruslan is loving, friendly, clingy, and very cuddly. He loves his mentor and snuggles up to him, as if he doesn’t want to go back to his kennel. He is calm, balanced, and very intelligent, showing great gratitude for every bit of affection, every kind word, and every mental stimulation. The wait in the kennel is hard for him because he is very people-oriented and craves closeness. His movement should also be covered in the future through regular walks. He walks nicely on the leash, and every time with him is a joy. For the person who chooses him, he will be a faithful companion and a true friend." Who will give Ruslan his forever home? Ruslan is ready to travel. A big thank you to Lisa Ferrari for taking over the sponsorship of Ruslan.

About Ruslan

What life with Ruslan looks like

Ruslan is a adult dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruslan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruslan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruslan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruslan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruslan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruslan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruslan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
