Adopt Rusty

Unknown · Adult · 4 years

Handsome Rusty is searching for his forever home and a special bunny friend to share it with. Rusty came into our care through no fault of his own after his owner sadly became unable to care for him while recovering from a serious illness. Despite this big change in his life, Rusty has remained the calm, sweet-natured bunny everyone adores. Before coming to us, Rusty spent summers living outside in a hutch (which is not enough space for bunnies) and winters indoors. While he was cared for and loved, we now want to find him the spacious, enriching home that every rabbit deserves. Rusty is a laid-back boy with a lovely personality. He has never shown any aggression and is a pleasure to care for. He has now been neutered and is ready to find his perfect bunny companion – whether male or female – to bond with and enjoy the rest of his life. We’re looking for a home that understands rabbits’ needs and can offer Rusty plenty of space to run, explore, binky, and relax with a friend by his side. Could you be the one to give this wonderful boy the happy ending he deserves? ❤️ All rabbits need a spacious, secure enclosure no smaller than 3m x 2m by 1m high but the bigger the better! A quiet environment with fresh hay, veggies and enrichment

About Rusty

What life with Rusty looks like

Rusty is a large adult rabbit waiting at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rusty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rusty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Thornberry Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rusty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rusty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Thornberry Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rusty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rusty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Thornberry Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rusty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
