Rusty

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Six months ago, the animal welfare workers from Sonrisa Peluda found two dogs tied to a streetlamp, waiting for their owners to return—unsuccessfully. Beside the eight-year-old Scotty sat a floppy-eared puppy, whom our friends named Rusty. As Rusty was barely a few weeks old at the time of his rescue and his only security in life was Scotty, the two very friendly mixed-breed dogs moved together to an experienced foster family. For six months, Scotty has been proving that he is a true Scottish gentleman—what about Rusty? Well, Rusty has grown into a clown who inspires all dog lovers with his zest for life and playfulness and quickly forms close friendships with other active dogs. Rusty has greatly benefited from being directly placed in a loving foster family. He has learned many things that will make his career start in his new home easier. Rusty is house-trained, knows how to use a leash and collar, has learned to find his place in a pack with several other dogs, and has perfected his communication. He readily joins his two-legged friends, goes on enthusiastic walks, and shows great willingness to learn and be curious. Rusty is highly motivated to become part of a real family soon. His people should be active and humorous, world explorers and researchers like their new family member, understanding of a playful teenager whose hormones sometimes turn his head into glitter paste and confetti—above all, they should understand the joy of loving and playing. Our ten-month-old (as of March 2024) heartbreaker is ready to solve his ticket to great happiness and start the adventure of becoming a family dog. Are you the happy recipient of our little playmobile?

About Rusty

What life with Rusty looks like

Rusty is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rusty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rusty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rusty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rusty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rusty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rusty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rusty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
