Prince

Greyhound · Male · Adult · 6 years

Gorgeous 6 year old boy Prince would love to find his forever sofa. He joined us in June and is such a lovely boy. Prince originally found a lovely home directly from his trainers kennels where he was excellent in the house but sadly he had to be returned after a couple of months due to an altercation over a toy with the other dog in the home so he is now with us to search for his forever sofa. Prince is the most loving boy with people and he loves jumping up for cuddles. He enjoys his walks, is perfect on the lead and loves to play. He does need an understanding home though as he has a high prey drive and needs to continue his positive introductions to smaller breeds (this was started in his first home and will be continued by us here until he finds his new home). He'd like to be an only pet where he can have all the love, fuss, attention and toys to himself. He loves everyone but he is a big lad so due to his size and the fact that he likes to jump up he will need a home without children. In the right understanding home he is going to be the most amazing, loving and loyal pet. Prince is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, will go home with collar & lead, house collar, muzzle, 4 weeks free insurance and a lifetime of support and back up should you ever need it. We are based in Essex and home to the Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, North London and North Kent areas. We also have homecheckers/volunteers in the Peterborough, South Lincolnshire, Suffolk and Norfolk areas so adoptions are also possible in these areas providing potential adopters are willing to visit us first. Homechecks and donation apply.

About Prince

What life with Prince looks like

Prince is a large adult greyhound dog waiting at Barley Greyhound Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Prince, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Prince?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Barley Greyhound Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Prince on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Prince if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Barley Greyhound Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Prince already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Prince isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Barley Greyhound Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Prince and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
