Sally

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Sally, a gentle and friendly female dog, was found abandoned in a forest near a road with her siblings Hook and Lightning and their mother Greta. A kind man discovered them and asked for help, taking a long journey to bring them to the shelter. More information about how the dogs came to the shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal welfare FAQ. At the shelter, Sally is very approachable and friendly. She stands in front of the caregivers, wagging her tail, and looks between them. After turning in a circle, she decides to cuddle up with her siblings in the hut. However, she cannot hide her curiosity, observing the scene from the hut with her head lowered. When her hand is extended to her, the sweet dog retreats to the corner of the hut, unable to tolerate touch yet. The puppies have not been observed playing together so far, but they like to lie close together in the hut. When feeding, they eat from separate bowls, and it has not been observed that Sally goes to other bowls. Our puppy gang is showing typical puppy behavior, with some being more shy and others more confident. Their character will continue to develop in the coming weeks and months - at this point, only the beginnings can be recognized. If you would like more information about this furry friend, please contact our placement team. Sally appears to be limping, which is still being medically assessed. Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any questions, please send us a message. Puppies should not have to grow up in a shelter. Therefore, we urgently need a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little furry friend - a place where she can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a dog. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: As soon as house training is done, the "wild puberty" often begins - full of energy, uncertainties, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that humans and dogs go through together - with ups and downs and many learning moments. We wish for this furry friend people with patience, empathy, and perseverance - and with the understanding that rescue dogs often already have a certain history. How they react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: Adopting instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are thinking about adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs) before departure. Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, please send our placement team a message.

About Sally

What life with Sally looks like

Sally is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sally, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sally?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sally on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sally if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sally already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sally isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sally and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
