Sam

English Bulldog · Male · 4 years

I am Sam and I bring a lot of dog personality with me! If you want to get to know me, you should be a seasoned two-legged being who is familiar with rambunctious four-legged creatures like me. That’s me: I’ve had quite a bit of experience already: I was apparently sold over the internet, then left somewhere and not picked up. Unfortunately, I also had a bite incident with a human – that’s why I need a responsible handler. Additionally, I can be a bit irritable in certain situations, especially when it comes to food or toys – it’s hard to judge that in the shelter environment, as there’s always “dog competition” around me. However, I might be more relaxed in my own home. But don’t worry, I also have many sunny sides: I’m incredibly cuddly and love to snuggle with my people. Additionally, I’m house-trained and know basic commands. If you give me time and build trust, I can be a great companion. I like to cuddle, explore new environments, and be active! An enclosed garden where I can move freely would be great. But I would also be happy in an apartment, as long as you offer me enough exercise and engaging tasks. I don’t like too much chaos. I would be too stormy for children, and my home should be as quiet and structured as possible. We need to be careful about my prey drive. I would like a home with experience in raising dogs that can be aggressive towards people, preferably in a rural or suburban area. People with patience and experience with dogs that can be aggressive towards people would be perfect. Whether I can also be left alone sometimes, we would need to test – but I’m confident we can manage that together! In my home, I would like to be the sole prince, but I get along with buddies elsewhere. As I have hip dysplasia, I can no longer climb stairs – my home should be accessible without stairs for me. The fence around the property should be at least 1.80 meters high. Would you like to get to know me? Then fill out the inquiry form or contact the Struppi-House at our area by phone, except on Saturdays.

About Sam

What life with Sam looks like

Sam is a medium-sized adult english bulldog dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Hip dysplasia - cannot climb stairs, history of human aggression, resource guarding behavior with food and toys

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sam, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sam?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sam on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sam if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sam already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sam isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sam and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
