Special Case Sammie

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Sammie lived somewhere for a long time about which we have no further information. He had to leave and was picked up by a few terribly kind people. He lived with them for a year and a half, but their health is deteriorating and Sammie has become attached to a young child. According to his chip and passport he is a Dutch dog, but given his build and behavior we doubt that. We are almost certain that this is a dog from abroad who was given a new passport and a chip in the Netherlands ten years ago. We have searched, and there does not appear to be a second chip present. The people Sammie lived with really wanted to help him. They called various shelters, but those didn't want him. They preferred dogs without problems, and rehoming him would take up too much of their time, and the chance that he would be put down at one of the shelters was too great (we emphasize that we know many shelters have a no-kill policy, but unfortunately, in

About Special Case Sammie

What life with Special Case Sammie looks like

Special Case Sammie is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Zilver in —.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Special Case Sammie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Special Case Sammie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Zilver handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Special Case Sammie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Special Case Sammie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Zilver will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Special Case Sammie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Special Case Sammie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Zilver early rather than rehoming privately; they know Special Case Sammie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
