Adopt Sammy

European Shorthair · Male · Senior · 12 years

"Sammy" is a loving and sophisticated senior who, with heavy heart, has lost his previous home. The stay at the animal shelter is clearly difficult for him, and it's evident how much he wishes for a quiet and loving home again. Right after his arrival, "Sammy" showed a strong human connection – he immediately sought to be stroked, looked for the closeness of us, and enjoyed every bit of attention. "Sammy" is not comfortable being alone and makes himself noticeable with many small "conversations" when he seeks the proximity of people. He also knows how to coexist with other cats and seems to value the company of fellow animals. Therefore, we wish for him a home where another social and friendly cat already lives. In his previous home, "Sammy" was allowed to have free roam and explore his surroundings. Thus, we are looking for a new home in a quiet and traffic-free area where he can go outside again after a proper adjustment period. His incoming examination is still pending. During this, blood values will be checked, and tests for FeLV and FIV will be conducted to give us a complete overview of his health condition. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Sammy

What life with Sammy looks like

Sammy is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof in Germany.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sammy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sammy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sammy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sammy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sammy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sammy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sammy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
