Samson

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Samson has found his owners and was permanently rehomed on 01.04.2017 to Woitis. As a part-time second dog - since the couple lives apart, it has been successfully possible to bring together the male dogs over a long period of time, the established male dog submits and everything fits. The fact that there is now another dog in the other home, who was discovered at Tierisch, Tierisch is also not a problem, here too they take their time with the introduction and getting used to each other. At work, where he is allowed to be every day, everything works perfectly, practice and listening are not neglected… we are happy that Samson has found the right people! …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… My name is Samson. I am male, neutered, born around 2013 and I am microchipped and vaccinated. I am about 65cm tall. I have been waiting for a new home since May 2016. This is what my caregivers say about me: Samson is a stray dog from our region, who is not missed. Samson is actually the classic German Shepherd, but it seems that he was often left to himself in the past. He quickly overcomes fences and obstacles and makes his own decisions, which do not always please us humans. Although he likes being with people, his attention is often insufficient, which makes communication difficult. He absolutely knows who he is, is confident in life and loves people of all sizes and ages. Samson loves playing with balls, nothing is greater to him than the ball. During car rides he gets stressed and feels sick, this should be counteracted in the future with small trips. Being alone still needs to be strengthened, here he shows himself relaxed and house-trained. Although he initially pulls on the leash, he is a pleasant companion on walks. With male dogs he does not like, and with female dogs, it depends on the sympathy. Cats and other animals should not be in the new household. Samson's enthusiasm should be the basis for his further training. He is not a dog who does not want to please, quite the opposite. Samson just needs to relearn how to learn, then the new owner will have a dream dog, we are convinced of that. Taking into account his incompatibility with male dogs, Samson is not a problematic dog, the usual willingness to train together with the dog and have fun with dog sports and training is a prerequisite for adoption. Since Samson is very friendly with people, we can easily imagine a new home in a family. Suitable for apartment living or a house with a garden, where he must not be left unattended until the bond with the new family is formed. Samson finally wants to land in a responsible home, where it is not indifferent if a family member suddenly disappears… The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in the new home.

About Samson

What life with Samson looks like

Samson is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
