Samu &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

The mother of the four Husky mix puppies Narvik, Tycho, Alarik, and Ilvy came into the care of another dog shelter in December 2023. It turned out that she was already pregnant upon arrival. On January 6, 2024, she gave birth to eight proud puppies: one female (Ava) and seven males (Amur, Armani, Duke, Eagle, Lars, Lupo, & Samu). While almost all the puppies have already moved into new homes, or are currently being evaluated or on trial, Samu is still looking for a home. In collaboration between the foster home and the Tierschutzbund Basel Regional, Samu is seeking a home with loving, active, and ideally dog-experienced people (Nordic dog breeds), who will adopt the little ones as family members and support them without overburdening them. Families with responsible, slightly older children are also welcome. They are suitable as first or second dogs. The dogs will be rehomed for 600.—. We appreciate your understanding if the processing of your request takes a little longer. We will do our best to provide a response as soon as possible. However, it may happen that many requests come in at once or that our resources are temporarily urgently needed elsewhere.

About Samu &#8211

What life with Samu &#8211 looks like

Samu &#8211 is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzbund Basel Regional.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samu &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samu &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund Basel Regional handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samu &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samu &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund Basel Regional will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samu &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samu &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund Basel Regional early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samu &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
