Adopt Samy

Male · Adult · 7 years

In the animal shelter since: 15.03.2021, Privatabgabe: Kinderfreundlich: ja, ab Teenageralter Verträglich mit anderen Hunden: je nach Sympathie Katzenfreundlich: unbekannt Alltagstauglichkeitsprüfung (ATP): bestanden gemeinsam mit seinen ehrenamtlichen Gassigehern Annemarie und Walter Samy is a lovable and friendly dog with a sunny disposition. The handsome male dog can perform all basic commands, goes very well on the leash, and seeks the company of his people. He is a "little" kid at heart, who loves lots of cuddles and is always ready for a snuggle session. Unfortunately, Samy has a very pronounced HD (hip dysplasia) on both sides. At present, he has no complaints about it, but in the future, it will likely cause him problems as he gets older. Additionally, Samy also has a house dust and food allergy, which means he needs special food and regular medical treatment. Samy needs time to get used to new people. Unfortunately, he is very insecure here and needs support from familiar people in these situations. Once you get to know him, you will quickly fall in love with him because he is a friendly and easy-going companion. He shows no signs of resource defense or aggression towards people. However, in stressful situations for him, he may begin to snap. Due to his alleged history, we only place Samy with dog-experienced individuals and families without children. How Samy reacts to cats, we do not know. However, during walks, he shows little to no prey drive, so we assume it could work. Samy gets along well with female dogs. With male dogs, it depends on their sympathy!. This animal is good with children. Gets along with other dogs.

About Samy

What life with Samy looks like

Samy is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Wels in Wels.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Severe bilateral hip dysplasia, dust and food allergies requiring special diet and regular medication

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
