Sansa

Female · Senior · 21 years

Sansa is an older female Leopard gecko born in early 2005. She was surrendered because she had been kept as a classroom pet for many years, and her teacher is now no longer at the school. Reliable care could no longer be guaranteed. Sansa shows some health peculiarities: she is missing several toes and claws on all four feet, her hind legs are somewhat unstable, and there are spots in her mouth that need to be monitored further. Additionally, she requires good calcium supplementation to support her bones. With careful care, however, she gets along well. For Sansa, a quiet and responsible home is sought where her special needs are taken into account. A well-equipped terrarium, an appropriate, calcium-rich diet, and the willingness to keep an eye on her health situation are important prerequisites. In the right environment, she can enjoy her twilight years in peace.

About Sansa

What life with Sansa looks like

Sansa is a very small senior animal waiting at Zürcher Tierschutz in Zürich.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Sansa far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

Note from the shelter: Missing multiple toes and claws on all feet, unstable hind legs, mouth issues requiring monitoring, needs calcium-rich diet for bone support

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sansa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sansa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zürcher Tierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sansa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sansa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zürcher Tierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sansa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sansa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zürcher Tierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sansa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
