Santiago

Mixed Breed · Male

9-week-old kitten Santiago arrived at Vahastu shelter, visited by his sibling Santiago Barcelona. Initially, he was extremely nervous and hissing. He would hiss, spit, and even tried to bite to defend himself. However, it took only a day to gain his trust, and from the small, nervous kitten, he became a fully confident and loving cat, now enjoying the company and attention of people with his whole heart. Santiago is one of the most playful and strong-willed kittens. He enjoys playing sideways, running around a tube, and especially loves playing with a ball. He brings his toys back to his place like a little puppy, waiting patiently for someone to pick them up again. He still loves Santiago's water. As soon as the tap starts running water, it's his place. He has to place his paws in and refresh the running water! Even when chasing in the living room, the game provides him with a lot of excitement, and he has also become quite skilled at car chases. Santiago is not only a very affectionate kitten. He has learned to react immediately after being spayed, if he happens to find himself in a place where he shouldn't be, a small amount of spaying is enough, and he is currently, for example, jumping off a cobblestone. He also responds well to his name and comes to you immediately when called. At the foster home, he is even called "Santiago de Compostela," especially when the kitten needs to be called a little more urgently. Although Santiago is energetic and playful, he is also a very patient cat. His moments of patience come when Santiago decides. Very often, he will curl up under or on a person's lap and in cushions. At night, he is a very brave kitten and doesn't bother anyone during the night. One of Santiago's great loves is still watching videos on YouTube. He could watch them for hours. With big eyes, making interesting sounds, and ready to pounce, he is a captivating sight. Unfortunately, Santiago's life has also seen some health issues. A while back, he was bitten by a severe flea infestation, which he scratched until he bled. Thankfully, this problem was resolved after a long-term treatment. However, his current biggest concern is a persistent cough, for which a permanent solution has not yet been found. Santiago is special and deserves a home, and everyone hopes that this worry will be resolved soon. However, because he has been in care for a long time, giving him medication is now very easy! Despite his health issues, Santiago is one of the most adorable, happy, and special kittens, who purrs. Santiago is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and has received necessary parasite treatments. Currently, Santiago is not yet ready to be returned to his original home, as his health issues still require monitoring. Santiago would prefer a home with no very small children, as they cause him fear. If you can't adopt this adorable cat, but would like to become a foster parent and cover his upkeep costs, read more about it HERE.

Santiago on lisaks väga nutikas poiss. Üheks Santiago suureks lemmikuks on veel hiirevideod YouTube’is. Neid võiks ta vaadata tundide viisi. Silmad suured peas, tehes huvitavaid hääli ja käpad valmis saaki püüdma. Kahjuks on Santiago elu saatnud ka pikalt tervisemured. Mõni aeg tagasi kimbutasid teda sügelevad nahalaigud, mida ta kratsis lausa veriseks. Õnneks saadi see probleem pika ravi tulemusena kontrolli alla.

About Santiago

What life with Santiago looks like

Santiago is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pesaleidja MTÜ in Pesaleidja.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇪Adopting from Estonia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Santiago, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Santiago?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pesaleidja MTÜ handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Santiago on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Santiago if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pesaleidja MTÜ will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Santiago already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Santiago isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pesaleidja MTÜ early rather than rehoming privately; they know Santiago and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ET). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
