Sarah &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female

I am female, neutered, and born around 2015. I have been waiting since 2017 for a new home. My caretakers say about me: Sarah is a found cat and remains a very cautious and rather shy cat to this day. Sarah shows herself more quietly in the adoption room and stays in the background. By now, she closely observes all people and only runs away when approached purposefully. One can get within about two meters of Sarah. Sarah can be rehomed with a compatible fellow animal, but children should not be in the household. Given her past, it would be nice if she could be rehomed as a second cat, as she enjoys the company of fellow animals. She does not necessarily need free roam, and pure apartment living is conceivable for Sarah, with a secure balcony being advantageous. She loves to bask in the sun and also enjoys the spots near the heating when it is colder outside. We are convinced that in her new home, she will gain trust with practice and training, as well as the corresponding treats. Even though this requires cat experience and a lot of patience. Time should be planned for her acclimation, with the hope that only your people will then earn her trust. She seeks a quiet household, and experience in dealing with shy cats is advantageous. Free roam would be nice later if possible, as she would enjoy it, but she would also feel well in pure apartment living after acclimation. Who gives the shy beauty a chance and gives her her own home?

About Sarah &#8211

What life with Sarah &#8211 looks like

Sarah &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sarah &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sarah &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sarah &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sarah &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sarah &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sarah &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sarah &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
