Animal shelter Protectora Animales y Plantas de Malaga Update 11 November 2025: Two new photos have been added of Sasha. Update 30 October 2025: Sasha tested positive for Leishmania. She has no symptoms, but is being treated with allopurinol. Input 13 October 2025: Sasha is a beautiful Podenco of 10 years old with a weight of 16.5 kg, pure sweetness. Her story was not easy, but her spirit has proven to be stronger than any obstacle. When she arrived at the animal shelter, she was scared, had a chest tumor and hardly any teeth. Thanks to the care of the veterinarians and the love of the volunteers, she is now a much more active and affectionate dog. Her tumor was removed during her sterilization surgery and since then Sasha has been flourishing and showing more confidence and joy every day. In the beginning, fear determined her daily life. Everything seemed like a challenge, but over time, and with the patience of the people around her, she learned that some hands only offer affection and some words only bring comfort. Although she is still startled by loud noises or sudden movements, she has learned to enjoy human company and eagerly waits for volunteers, asking for affection and attention. Sasha gets along well with her kennel mates and could live with children, as she is a calm and cautious dog. In the cat test at the animal shelter she showed some fear, more due to the situation than the cats themselves, so with the right adjustment she could live with them. One of her greatest pleasures is running freely in the garden and the park, feeling the freedom she so deserves. She walks well on a leash and enjoys outdoor moments. Sasha tested positive for Leishmania and is being treated for it. Sasha has proven to be a strong and loving dog.

About Sasha

What life with Sasha looks like

Sasha is a medium-sized senior podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sasha, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sasha?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sasha on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sasha if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sasha already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sasha isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sasha and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
