Schlitzohr

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

When you look closely at the photos, you'll see for yourself why Schlitzohr got this name. But she's actually called Schlitzi and responds to her name like a dog. Her left ear is her trademark and makes her absolutely unmistakable. At a feeding station, Schlitzi appeared, very reserved and cautious, as the other cats did not welcome the newcomer—thus, a potential food competitor—very warmly. She was very thin and limped slightly. Schlitzi was caught and brought to a foster home, where she now waits for a loving forever home. Despite intensive searches, a owner could not be found, and we assume she was abandoned. At first, Schlitzi was very shy, but she immediately got along with all the cats through her social behavior. In fact, she loves cats very much and thus also fits perfectly as a second or third cat. Because she limped slightly, Schlitzi was checked, and it was determined that she had a fracture in her front leg some time ago. However, this has now fully healed, and she walks just as well as ever without any limitations. Schlitzi is estimated to be 1-2 years old, she is neutered, microchipped, and will be vaccinated in the coming days. Meanwhile, she has settled in very well and enjoys being petted by her foster mom and loves being combed, although her longer fur doesn't require much care at all. The black-brown lady is a beautiful longhair mix and needs a primary caregiver who can go through thick and thin with her. She is loving, clingy, more on the quiet side but also playful and loves being scratched. At first, she might be a bit unsure around strangers, but that quickly changes. She just needs a bit more time. For Schlitzi, we are looking for a large apartment with a secure balcony or also free-run in a quiet environment.

About Schlitzohr

What life with Schlitzohr looks like

Schlitzohr is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Katzenhilfe Stuttgart e.V..

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Schlitzohr, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Schlitzohr?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Katzenhilfe Stuttgart e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Schlitzohr on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Schlitzohr if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Katzenhilfe Stuttgart e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Schlitzohr already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Schlitzohr isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Katzenhilfe Stuttgart e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Schlitzohr and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
