Schorsch

Labrador Retriever · Male · Senior · 14 years

Although Schorsch is already 12 years old, he’s far from ready for retirement. This fit and lively senior dog is looking for people who can guide him through life with confident leadership and consistency—but without pressure. Above all, this requires proper management at home, which potential adopters must understand clearly: when Schorschi first arrived with us, he already displayed strong and serious food aggression that simply can’t be “trained away” quickly or easily. However, it can be managed—which is far less stressful for both human and dog. In his new home, there must be the possibility to feed Schorsch in a separate room with a door. If this condition can be met, we’d be happy to discuss it in more detail during a personal conversation. Aside from these possible “turbulences,” the older Lab mix is a very open and friendly dog. Leash walking is readily trainable, and he has no issues meeting other dogs. Schorsch is easily motivated to learn new things. He communicates clearly with other dogs—a trait that should be appreciated. At the vet or during physiotherapy-like exercises (especially when sensitive areas are touched), he needs patient people who can work through these situations step by step with him and aren’t put off by his grumbling. He is accustomed to wearing a muzzle. Cats should preferably not be present in his new home, and any children should be at least 14 years old. He could live well as an only dog. Depending on mutual compatibility, he might also get along with a calm, friendly female dog—but in that case, introductions should be taken very slowly and carefully. Schorsch quickly feels confined and is used to having access both indoors and outdoors.

DE·Show original

About Schorsch

What life with Schorsch looks like

Schorsch is a senior labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Schorsch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Schorsch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Schorsch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Schorsch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Schorsch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Schorsch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung early rather than rehoming privately; they know Schorsch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
