Scobby

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 3 years

mixed breed Scobby – when will he finally get his chance? Scobby is a mixed-breed male dog waiting in the animal shelter for a home. Unfortunately, we know nothing about his past. In the shelter, Scobby shows himself to be a friendly and easy-going dog with a lively character, who loves activities and movement, and can't imagine anything better than playing and interacting with his trusted people. Unfortunately, time for that is always very limited, and Scobby spends, like all the dogs here, far too much time alone and behind bars. But of course, he has so much more to give: In a family that is looking for a true companion for all their adventures, Scobby would be wonderfully suited. This became especially clear during a large match-making event in early 2026. Between many people, children, music, strange dogs, and a lot of chaos, Scobby showed his best side. He greeted visitors friendly and openly, enjoyed the attention, and managed walks over the lively event grounds with sovereign and relaxed confidence. One could see how much he enjoyed the time outside of the shelter. Even during a special visit to a senior home, Scobby left a lasting impression. Together with a few other shelter dogs, he spent time with the residents and showed himself to be calm, friendly, and balanced. The encounters were just as valuable for the people as for the dogs – and Scobby once again proved how well he can handle new situations and different people. How much he already knows about life in a household, we unfortunately do not know; therefore, potential adopters should be prepared that there will still be a lot for Scobby to learn. What is certain is that he needs people who are ready to give him time, patience, and care and to accompany him on his journey. But what we can now say with certainty: Scobby is a dog who seeks the company of people, enjoys attention, and also presents himself as a pleasant companion outside of shelter life. That is why it is hard to understand why he still has to wait for his chance. We always ask that the responsibility for a dog not be taken lightly. Nevertheless: The responsible decision to offer a home to a dog in need for life also means winning a lifelong friend. And maybe you are exactly the person he has been hoping for so long. Here goes to Scobbys video Video 2 Ideally, we are looking for a home for Scobby. At this point in time, a foster home would also be a great help and a huge improvement for Scobbys life.

About Scobby

What life with Scobby looks like

Scobby is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scobby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scobby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scobby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scobby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scobby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scobby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scobby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
