Adopt Scoubi

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 4 years

Scoubi has joined our shelter following a seizure by police authorities for neglect. He unfortunately had several owners before coming to us, but his past remains unclear and we don't know much more about him. However, at the shelter, he proves to be a dog very attached to his human caregivers. Although he is initially very cautious with strangers, he gradually gets used to their presence and gains confidence over time provided that he is the one initiating the approach and contact. Trust is the key with Scoubi, the key through which future adopters will discover an extremely intelligent, generous, attentive, playful, sensitive and very affectionate companion. To gain this trust, he will need a structured home, stability, positive education and regular presence. With him, it's important to be gentle in the relationship but firm in the rules. Scoubi knows basic commands and learns quickly. On walks he is calm and doesn't pull. Crossings must however be well managed by capturing his attention, as otherwise he can become reactive towards other animals of the same species. As you can tell, Scoubi is not a dog to entrust to just anyone, and for all these reasons, we prefer to avoid homes with young children, as well as the presence of other small pets. The cohabitation with a medium to large sized dog will need to be tested beforehand at the shelter.

About Scoubi

What life with Scoubi looks like

Scoubi is a medium-sized adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scoubi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scoubi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scoubi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scoubi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scoubi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scoubi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scoubi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
