About Scrappy

Scrappy has been an assistance dog for many years but is now ready to retire to a patient, relaxed home. He is looking for company most of the time and a garden to play or relax in. He is not used to having stairs in the home. Scrappy has a grass allergy and takes daily medication. This condition would be covered under our Food and Veterinary Fund, as well as any other non-routine treatment covered under the Old Dog Scheme as Scrappy is over 8 years old.* Scrappy likes to decide when he want s to be petted and by whom. He is not cuddly with everyone. He does not seem to like tall, bearded men very much and is scared when children run up to him. Scrappy does not like to be touched on his ears. He is fine to be left alone for a few hours at home. He can bark if someone is at the front door or while travelling in the car. He is fine to be washed and brushed. As a trained assistance dog, Scrappy does not pay much attention to other dogs when on walks but likes to chase cats or go for a good sniff. If off-lead, he will surrender his toy to a larger dog that comes along, Scrappy is not confrontational. But he does not like dogs that would try to jump on him such as younger dogs. Scrappy wears a harness and walks well. He is used to running free in secure fields. Scrappy has been trained to wear a muzzle, if needed. He likes a good walk but will set his own pace (and sometimes the length). Scrappy loves playing fetch with a ball (with rest breaks), playing searching games and sniffing parcels. He enjoys his own section of the sofa where he snoozes, and likes to have his own blanket to snuggle up with. He does not like to be woken up before 7am and likes to steal any food he can! *FOOD AND VETERINARY TREATMENT FUND: This fund allows Dog Aid Scotland to cover costs of pre-existing conditions once a dog has been rehomed. This means we will cover costs for vet treatment if the dog has a condition before it comes to stay with you. In this case we will covers costs relating to Scrappy’s grass allergy, within reason. OLD DOG SCHEME: Dog Aid Scotland’s Old Dog Scheme covers dogs rehomed at 8 years old or above. This means that we will cover costs for veterinary care for the dog for the remainder of their life within reason. We do not cover costs for routine treatments such as vaccinations, worming and flea treatment. If the dog requires special dietary food we will contribute 50% of the cost. This will alleviate the worry of the financial implications taking an older dog into your home. Older dogs make great pets!
