Adopt Senador

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Senador is 9 years old and was requisitioned by authorities for being used in illegal hunting. Senador is very friendly, super sociable, and affectionate with humans. He loves long walks, is very curious, and walks beautifully on a leash, going at your pace. He handles manipulation well, allowing himself to be put in a harness, brushed, and explored... He also knows how to be very calm and loves cuddling sessions by your side. He adapts to everything as long as he is accompanied. Senador suffers greatly when left alone and spends hours crying for us to be with him. Sadly, we cannot dedicate as much time to him as he would like, and it breaks our hearts to hear his cries. For this reason, we need someone to take notice of him, but in addition to being a male and of a dark color, two factors that don't usually bode well, he has another condition that definitively makes him invisible: he is diabetic. This means that he needs to be injected with insulin twice a day and his diet must be monitored. It's not a big deal, but it obviously reduces his chances of being adopted. We need someone who can see him for what he is, a dog who has had a miserable life and deserves to live with a family that truly loves, cares for, and respects him. Come meet him because you will truly see how great he is. My name is Senador and I ended up at ALBA because the Civil Guard and Forestry found my supposed owner hunting with me illegally. During my long stay at ALBA until the disposition was resolved to find me a new family, they discovered that I was sick and after doing many tests, they realized I was a diabetic Spanish Greyhound. So, I need to be injected with insulin in the morning and in the afternoon, always after eating a little bit. In my favor, I am a very sociable, affectionate, and tender Spanish Greyhound. I can walk perfectly on a leash. Do you suffer from diabetes? How would you feel if others turned their backs on you because of your illness? Take me with you? Leishmania and Ehrlichia tests negative. I have already been neutered.

Me llevas contigo? Analiticas de leishmania y ehrlichia negativas. About Senador

What life with Senador looks like

Senador is a extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at ALBA Protectora Madrid in Madrid.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Senador, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Senador?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ALBA Protectora Madrid handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Senador on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Senador if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ALBA Protectora Madrid will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Senador already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Senador isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ALBA Protectora Madrid early rather than rehoming privately; they know Senador and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
