Shaco

Mixed Breed · Male

Temperament: Shaco is a young, large dog of the Siberian Husky type. He arrived at the animal shelter as a frightened and skittish dog, but from the beginning he was gentle and delicate towards people. He quickly showed his true face - cheerful, energetic and full of life. As befits a representative of northern dogs, Shaco loves to explore new areas. On the yard he joyfully shows his athletic abilities, and nose work gives him great pleasure - he can sniff out even the smallest treat. He is strongly motivated by food, which significantly facilitates learning new commands and training work. Initially on a leash, he can be energetic and sometimes pulls forward. It is worth remembering that this is a dog weighing over 30 kg, created for harnesses, so his handling can sometimes require more strength. However, once he has released excess energy, the walk becomes much calmer, and the leash stops being taut. During walks, Shaco handles well in the presence of other dogs - most of them are ignored, and in direct contacts he is balanced and friendly. This is an extremely people-oriented dog. He loves people and quickly becomes attached to them. Although this is a great advantage, it can also bring challenges, such as separation anxiety. Shaco very reluctantly returns to the kennel after a walk - he tries to follow the person and vocalizes. He is a sensitive dog, and staying at the animal shelter is especially difficult for him. The future caregiver should be prepared to work on teaching Shaco to stay alone at home, and be aware that separation anxiety does not always manifest solely through barking, but can also lead to destruction of objects or elimination in the house. Shaco is looking for a home with an physically active, patient person, familiar with the specifics of original breeds and ready to spend time building a sense of security and stable relationship with him.

Usposobienie: Shaco to młody, duży pies w typie syberian husky. To pies niezwykle proludzki.

About Shaco

What life with Shaco looks like

Shaco is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shaco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shaco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shaco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shaco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shaco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shaco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shaco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
