adoption requirements adoption process Adopt now this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Shelby can stay forever! Her story: Until about three years ago, the loving Shelby lived together with other dogs in the neighborhood of Stefan, a Romanian animal welfare worker. After the sudden death of her previous owner, Stefan took in the dogs and saved them from certain death. Unfortunately, the animals live in the area of Beclean, meaning they cannot be brought to our shelter in Bistrita or other shelters. The city shelters only accept dogs from their own city. Since killing still occurs in Beclean on the same day, they had to be provisionally housed on an open field on a chain. They are fed there daily, but the dogs' lives are very hard. They are exposed to the elements every day, whether scorching heat or icy winter storms. The dogs have only a small hut for shelter. Shelby has now lived on a chain for 3 years. When we visited Stefan in Romania in April, we spontaneously decided to help all the dogs there. The sweet Josie was lucky and could travel to her family in July. But Shelby, Palina, and Joey are still waiting. Shelby is already about 9 years old. We wish very much that she can spend her remaining years loved in freedom and with much care. She is a true treasure and simply heartwarmingly good. Shelby will enrich every home with her presence and bring lots of fun and joy. Shelby is a friendly and calm female dog who gets along well with other dogs. On the leash, she walks reliably and enjoys being stroked, making her a truly pleasant companion who has lots of love to give. She would like to cuddle, explore the world, and make up for everything she never got to experience. This animal was abandoned.

About Shelby

What life with Shelby looks like

Shelby is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shelby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shelby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shelby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shelby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shelby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shelby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shelby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
