Sherbert

Lurcher · Male · Young · 2 years

Sherbert is a delightful young Lurcher with a happy demeanour and a zest for life. He is enjoying the sunshine at our Old Windsor Centre. Sherbert enjoys nothing more than a stretching his legs, running and getting zoomies in our paddocks. He really likes to be out on walks and exploring the world around him. A private garden and long walks will provide Sherbert with the perfect structure to manage his energy levels as a young Lurcher. He's a bright boy and has learnt some good basics in a short space of time - including roll over, wait, bed to name a few. At this time Sherbert is to be the only dog in his new home as he hasn't mastered the art of socialising with other dogs as yet. He is friendly and excitable around other dogs but hasn't quite learnt to read when other dogs have had enough play. Sherbert enjoys meeting people and has greeted everyone he has met here at Old Windsor with a wagging tail and a wiggle in his step. He can jump up at times but listens well to an 'off' cue. He really craves attention and hands-on fuss, we think if he could he would be a lapdog. Other than walks and zoomies, Sherbert's other joys in life are toys, which he will happily play with on his own and food. He has shown some guarding of his food so his owners will need to be aware of this and follow advice to manage it. He has been housetrained previously, but may need some reminders as he settles into a home. Sherbert is a fun-loving boy who will bring plenty of love and smiles to a new home. He would benefit from going to an active home that will enjoy taking him on longer walks. About Sherbert

What life with Sherbert looks like

Sherbert is a medium-sized young adult lurcher dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sherbert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sherbert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sherbert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sherbert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sherbert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sherbert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sherbert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
