Sherlock

Border Collie · Male · Senior · 12 years

Sherlock’s favourite thing in the world is toys, and he truly believes they are the key to a happy life! Whether he is carrying them around, playing with them or proudly showing them off, his love for toys is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. He also enjoys his walks and is a lovely companion to have by your side. Sherlock travels well in the car, although he would appreciate some steps to help him get in and out comfortably. If you think you could be the perfect match for this amazing oldie, please add Sherlock to your favourites and submit an application! Sherlock is a wonderful 13yr old Collie who is putting his detective skills to work and is on a very important mission — sniffing out his forever home. Some puppies just never grow up, and Sherlock is the perfect example! Despite being a senior gentleman, he is still full of life and ready to enjoy his golden years. Sherlock would love a nice quiet home where he can relax and enjoy life at his own pace. He could be the only pet in the home or potentially live with a calm smaller dog who would respect his boundaries. He could also live with older secondary school-aged children who understand that he is an older gentleman and can give him the gentle approach he deserves. Sherlock can be left for a couple of hours and will always be waiting to greet you with a waggy tail when you return. Sherlock does have some medical requirements but this can be discussed with our vet team.

About Sherlock

What life with Sherlock looks like

Sherlock is a senior border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury in Telford.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sherlock, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sherlock?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shrewsbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sherlock on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sherlock if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shrewsbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sherlock already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sherlock isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shrewsbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sherlock and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
