Hedwig

Jack Russell Terrier · Female · Senior · 9 years

Hedwig enjoys exploring the world at her own pace and will happily spend her walks sniffing out every interesting scent she comes across. She's a lovely little companion to walk with, taking everything in and investigating anything that catches her eye. She walks beautifully on the lead and is always happy to accept a tasty treat or two while out and about. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who enjoys both adventures and cosy cuddles, Hedwig could be the perfect addition to your family. Hedwig has medical issues, which can be discussed in more detail with potential adopters. Hedwig is a wonderful nine-year-old Patterdale Terrier with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Friendly, affectionate, and full of charm, she loves spending time with her people and is happiest when she can curl up beside you for a cuddle. Hedwig could live with primary school-aged children and would prefer a home where someone is around for most of the day, as she doesn't enjoy being left alone. She would like to be the only dog in the home so she can have all the attention to herself, although she would enjoy having doggy friends to walk with. We have no previous history to indicate how she may be around cats.

About Hedwig

What life with Hedwig looks like

Hedwig is a large senior jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury in Telford.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hedwig, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hedwig?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shrewsbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hedwig on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hedwig if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shrewsbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hedwig already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hedwig isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shrewsbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hedwig and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
